TEMPORARY and QUARTERS INFORMATION
Guest housing is available to incoming PCS peronnel for up to 30 days, while awaiting housing. Reservations are recommended and accepted up to 60 dats in advance. If however, you have not made reservations, accomodations may be provided on a space available basis. For information call, 878-5087/2337.
Cost for temporary quarters vary. On post billeting, The Transportation Inn, price per night is in the upper $20's through mid $30's. Off post lodging vary in quality, price and location to Fort Eustis and Fort Story. Prices range from $30 to $80 per night. For reservations call the Transportation Inn at (757) 878-5807 or (757) 888-0968. The Transportation Inn can provide information on off-post accommodations.

The office serves as a processing center for shipping household goods, unaccompanied baggage and privately owned vehicles. It does not accept incomping shipments. The responsible Transportation office for all incoming shipments of household goods and unaccompanied bagged is the CPPSP Langley Air Force Base, Virginia at 764-2044

The Fort Eustis Claims office is located in Building 2732, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate onMadison Avenue. It serves US Army personnel in the Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach area, except those assigned to Fort Monroe.
Procedure: Within 70 days of delivery, written notice of loss and.or damage DD Form 1840 or 1840R (Notice of Loss or Damage) must be presented to the Claims Office. Failure to do so will result in reduction or elimination of the reqard. Alll lost or damaged items not previously listed at the time of delivery, must be noted on the DD Form 1840 R. Identifyt each item by inventory number, name and description of item and any damage incident to this shipment. Claimants living in the Fort Eustis vicinity should file this form on Wednesdays. The Claims Office then mails the notice to the carrier.
Filing DD Form 1840 R does not mean that a claim has been filed. Persons wishing to file a claim against the government have 2 years to do so. It is advised, however, that claims be filed promptly as essential documents may get lost. and additional documents may take time to acquire before filing a claim. If items are missing from a shipment, a tracer action usually takes about 30 days. Results of the tracer are requyired before a claim may be processed. Individuals processing personal property insurance are required to file loss or damage with their insurance company. Settlement of this claim may be required before a claim against the government may be settled.
- One copy of orders authorizing shipment
- Original copy of all shipping documents pertaining to the shipment (*not reproduced copies)
- One copy of orders to place property in storage and one copy to remove the property (if shipment is from non-temporary storage).
- One copy of assignment or termination of Government Quarters (if property is to be moved to or from Government Quarters)
Important Notice: Do not throw away any damaged item for which a claim will be filed. You may be required to turn the property into the government or the carrier up to 105 days after the claim is settled. Conteact the claims adjudicator for information on releasing damaged goods for disposal.
